The SLC5A3 antibody targets the solute carrier family 5 member 3 (SLC5A3), a sodium-dependent myo-inositol transporter encoded in humans by the *SLC5A3* gene. This protein plays a critical role in cellular osmoregulation and neurological function by transporting myo-inositol, a cyclic polyol essential for cell signaling and osmoprotection, into cells. SLC5A3 is highly expressed in the brain, kidneys, and placenta, where it maintains inositol homeostasis, particularly under hypertonic stress. Dysregulation of SLC5A3 has been implicated in neurological disorders such as epilepsy, Alzheimer’s disease, and rare genetic conditions like SMIT1 deficiency syndrome, characterized by developmental delays and seizures.

Antibodies against SLC5A3 are vital tools for studying its expression, localization, and functional roles in both physiological and pathological contexts. They enable techniques like immunohistochemistry, Western blotting, and immunofluorescence to visualize protein distribution in tissues or assess expression levels in disease models. Researchers also use these antibodies to explore SLC5A3’s interaction with signaling pathways, such as the phosphatidylinositol (PI) cycle, and its potential as a therapeutic target for osmotic imbalance-related disorders.
