The EIF2B2 antibody targets the eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2B subunit β (EIF2Bβ), a critical component of the EIF2B complex. This heteropentameric complex (α, β, γ, δ, ε subunits) regulates the guanine nucleotide exchange activity of eukaryotic initiation factor 2 (EIF2), a key step in initiating protein synthesis under stress conditions. EIF2Bβ (encoded by the *EIF2B2* gene) contributes to the structural stability of the complex and modulates its catalytic function.

EIF2B2 antibodies are primarily used in research to study cellular stress responses, translation regulation, and neurological disorders. Mutations in *EIF2B2* are linked to vanishing white matter disease (VWMD), a leukodystrophy characterized by myelin loss and stress-induced neurological deterioration. These antibodies enable detection of EIF2B2 expression levels, subcellular localization (e.g., cytoplasmic distribution), and post-translational modifications in disease models or patient samples.

As a research tool, EIF2B2 antibodies are applied in techniques like Western blotting, immunofluorescence, and immunohistochemistry. Their specificity helps elucidate EIF2B complex dynamics during integrated stress response (ISR) activation, where phosphorylation of EIF2α modulates global translation.
