The BIK (Bcl-2-interacting killer) protein is a pro-apoptotic member of the Bcl-2 family, which plays a critical role in regulating mitochondrial-dependent programmed cell death. Characterized by its BH3 domain, BIK promotes apoptosis by neutralizing anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 family proteins like Bcl-2 and Bcl-xL, thereby activating downstream effectors such as Bax and Bak. Dysregulation of BIK expression has been implicated in various cancers, neurodegenerative diseases, and autoimmune disorders, highlighting its importance in cellular homeostasis.

BIK antibodies are essential tools for studying its expression, localization, and interactions in both physiological and pathological contexts. These antibodies enable detection via techniques like Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence, aiding research into apoptotic signaling pathways. Additionally, they are used to explore BIK's dual roles in cancer—acting as a tumor suppressor in some contexts while contributing to chemoresistance in others—and its potential as a therapeutic target.
