METRNL (Meteorin-like), also known as subfatin or Cometin, is a secreted protein initially identified for its role in metabolic regulation and immune modulation. It shares structural homology with Meteorin and is expressed in adipose tissue, skeletal muscle, and immune cells, particularly macrophages. METRNL is implicated in energy homeostasis, insulin sensitivity, and inflammation, with studies linking it to brown adipose tissue activation, white adipose browning, and glucose metabolism. It interacts with receptors such as IL-41Ra (Interleukin-41 receptor alpha) and mediates anti-inflammatory responses by polarizing macrophages toward an M2 phenotype.

METRNL antibodies are research tools developed to detect and quantify METRNL protein levels in biological samples. These antibodies enable studies on METRNL's tissue distribution, secretion dynamics, and molecular mechanisms in metabolic diseases (e.g., obesity, diabetes), autoimmune disorders, and tissue repair. Commercial METRNL antibodies are typically validated for applications like Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and ELISA.
