The phospholipase C beta 1 (PLCB1) antibody is a tool used to detect and study the PLCB1 protein, a key enzyme in intracellular signaling pathways. PLCB1 belongs to the phospholipase C (PLC) family, which hydrolyzes phosphatidylinositol 4.5-bisphosphate (PIP2) into inositol 1.4.5-trisphosphate (IP3) and diacylglycerol (DAG), secondary messengers that regulate calcium release and protein kinase C (PKC) activation. PLCB1 is primarily activated by G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) via Gαq/11 subunits or receptor tyrosine kinases, making it critical in cellular processes like proliferation, differentiation, and neurotransmitter release.

PLCB1 antibodies are widely used in research to investigate its expression, localization, and function in tissues, particularly in the brain, where PLCB1 is highly expressed and implicated in synaptic plasticity and neurological disorders. These antibodies (often raised in rabbits or mice) are validated for applications such as Western blotting, immunohistochemistry (IHC), and immunofluorescence (IF). Dysregulation of PLCB1 has been linked to conditions like bipolar disorder, epilepsy, and certain cancers, driving interest in its mechanistic role.
