The GRHPR (glyoxylate reductase/hydroxypyruvate reductase) antibody is a tool used to detect the GRHPR enzyme, a key metabolic protein involved in the glyoxylate and hydroxypyruvate pathways. GRHPR primarily catalyzes the reduction of glyoxylate to glycolate and hydroxypyruvate to D-glycerate, critical steps in preventing oxalate overproduction. Dysfunction of GRHPR due to genetic mutations is linked to primary hyperoxaluria type 2 (PH2), a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by excessive oxalate accumulation, nephrolithiasis, and renal failure.

Antibodies targeting GRHPR are essential for studying its expression, localization, and functional deficiencies in research and diagnostics. They are widely used in techniques like immunohistochemistry (IHC), Western blotting, and ELISA to assess GRHPR levels in tissues or cell lines, aiding in the confirmation of PH2 diagnoses. Commercial GRHPR antibodies are typically raised in model organisms (e.g., rabbits, mice) against specific epitopes of the human GRHPR protein, validated for specificity and sensitivity.

Recent studies also explore GRHPR's role beyond PH2. including its potential involvement in cancer metabolism and mitochondrial function.
