The multidrug resistance-associated protein 2 (MRP2), encoded by the *ABCC2* gene, belongs to the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter family. Primarily expressed in the apical membranes of hepatocytes, renal proximal tubules, and intestinal epithelia, MRP2 mediates the ATP-dependent efflux of endogenous and exogenous organic anions, including conjugated bilirubin, glutathione-conjugated metabolites, and various drugs. Its role in biliary excretion is critical for detoxification, making it a key player in drug pharmacokinetics and toxicity. Dysfunctional MRP2 is linked to hereditary disorders like Dubin-Johnson syndrome (characterized by conjugated hyperbilirubinemia) and acquired multidrug resistance in cancers, where its overexpression reduces intracellular chemotherapeutic drug accumulation.

MRP2 antibodies are essential tools for studying protein expression, localization, and function in normal physiology and disease. They are widely used in techniques such as immunohistochemistry, Western blotting, and flow cytometry to assess MRP2 levels in tissues or cell lines, particularly in liver disease models, cancer research, and drug transport studies. These antibodies also aid in evaluating drug-drug interactions and regulatory mechanisms involving nuclear receptors (e.g., pregnane X receptor).
