Humanin is a 24 amino acid anti apoptotic peptide and a Bax inhibitor. Humanin can prevent the transport of Bax from cytoplasm to mitochondria and block the transition of Bax from active conformation to active conformation. Humanin is a mitochondrial related peptide that has neuroprotective effects against AD related neurotoxicity and can inhibit neuronal cell death induced by familial Alzheimer's disease genes and amyloid beta protein (human). Humanin can also improve the overall insulin sensitivity of animals. Humanin is also associated with aging.
