BMP-4 is a heparin-binding peptide composed of 10 amino acids, which exhibits anti-inflammatory and anti-chondrogenic functions. In mouse chondrocytes and macrophages, BMP-4 effectively suppresses inflammation and alleviates various arthritis symptoms by dose-dependently inhibiting the expression of inflammatory proteins such as iNOS, COX2, IFN, and IL6 through the regulation of the iNOS-IFN-IL6 signaling pathway.
