Bermekimab is a true human (non-immunogenic) monoclonal antibody of the IgG1λ isotype that specifically targets and neutralizes interleukin-1 alpha (IL-1α). It functions as a cytokine-blocking therapy by binding to IL-1α, preventing it from engaging its receptor (IL-1R1) and initiating pro-inflammatory signaling. It has been investigated for the treatment of conditions driven by IL-1α-mediated inflammation, including hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), cancer cachexia, and acne vulgaris. Clinical trials have shown promising results in reducing disease activity in HS and improving symptoms in cachexia associated with advanced cancers.
