Bremzalerbart (also known as BETVIA) is a human monoclonal antibody of the IgG4 isotype. It is designed as an anti-allergen therapeutic agent. It functions as a neutralizing agent by binding directly and specifically to its target, Bet v 1-A. By neutralizing the allergen, Bremzalerbart prevents it from interacting with IgE antibodies bound to mast cells and basophils, which is the triggering event for the allergic inflammatory cascade. The use of the IgG4 isotype ensures that the antibody primarily focuses on allergen neutralization and minimizes the induction of host effector functions. Bremzalerbart has been developed for the prophylactic treatment of Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis (hay fever) and Conjunctivitis caused by birch pollen exposure.
