Burfiralimab (also known as hzVSF-v13) is a humanized IgG4 monoclonal antibody. It is designed as a broad-spectrum antiviral and anti-inflammatory agent. The antibody targets and binds to Vimentin expressed on the surface of virus-infected cells. By binding to Vimentin on these infected cells, Burfiralimab is thought to exert broad-spectrum antiviral activity through an unknown mechanism and also provide an anti-inflammatory effect, thereby mitigating the excessive inflammatory response caused by the viral infection. Due to its dual mechanism, Burfiralimab has been investigated in studies for severe viral infections such as severe COVID-19, aiming to suppress viral replication and alleviate life-threatening cytokine storm.
