Cetuximab is a chimeric (mouse/human) monoclonal antibody used as a targeted therapy for certain types of cancer. Marketed under the brand name Erbitux®, it is approved for the treatment of squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN) and KRAS wild-type, metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). It can be used in combination with radiation therapy for locally advanced SCCHN, with chemotherapy for recurrent or metastatic SCCHN and mCRC, or as a monotherapy in patients who have failed prior treatments. Cetuximab works by inhibiting the signaling pathway that drives tumor cell growth and proliferation.
