Farletuzumab (development code MORAb-003) is a humanized monoclonal IgG1 antibody developed for the treatment of ovarian cancer. It functions as a targeted therapy against a folate receptor highly expressed on ovarian cancer cells. The antibody is engineered with a modified Fc region to enhance antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC), a key mechanism for killing cancer cells. By binding to its target on the tumor cell surface, farletuzumab marks the cells for destruction by immune effector cells, primarily natural killer (NK) cells. It was also investigated for its potential to directly inhibit tumor-promoting signaling pathways and to deliver cytotoxic payloads in antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) formats.
