 General procedure for the synthesis of 9,9-dimethyl-9H-fluoren-2-amine from 2-nitro-9,9-dimethylfluorene: 23.9 g (100.0 mmol) of 2-nitro-9,9-dimethylfluorene and 0.5 g of 10% Pd/activated carbon catalyst were suspended in 500 mL of ethanol, and the reaction was stirred for 24 h under hydrogen atmosphere. Upon completion of the reaction, the catalyst was removed by filtration and the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure and purified by column chromatography to afford 16.9 g of the light yellow solid product 9,9-dimethyl-9H-fluoren-2-amine in 81% yield. The structure of the product was confirmed by high resolution mass spectrometry (HR-MS) (calculated value: [M+H]+ 209.1204, measured value: [M+H]+ 209.1194).  |  [References]
