Uses
1-Stearoyl-2-linoleoyl-sn-glycerol is used in the study of the influence of platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) on diacylglycerol phosphorylation in Swiss 3T3 cells. It is also a possible protein kinase C activator.
Definition
ChEBI: A 1,2-diacyl-sn-glycerol in which the acyl groups at positions 1 and 2 are specified as stearoyl and linoleoyl respectively.
Biological Activity
DAG plays a vital role in the physiological activation of protein kinase C (PKC). The production of DAG in the membrane facilitates translocation of PKC from the cytosol to the plasma membrane. Diacylglycerol mimicks the effects of the tumor-promoting compounds phorbol esters.
