Tebutam is used as herbicide and pesticide.
Production Methods
Tebutam is produced commercially through a multi-step synthesis that constructs its amide-based herbicidal structure, enabling its use as a pre-emergence herbicide for controlling broadleaf and grassy weeds. The process begins with the preparation of key intermediates such as benzyl halides and isopropylamines, which are reacted to form N-benzyl-N-isopropylamine. This intermediate is then acylated using pivaloyl chloride (or a similar reagent) to yield tebutam.
