Definition

ChEBI: An organochlorine compound that is 2-chloroacetamide substituted by a 2,6-dimethylphenyl and a (1H-pyrazol-1-ylmethyl) group at the nitrogen atom.

Production Methods

Metazachlor is commercially produced through a multi-step chemical synthesis that builds on the chloroacetanilide herbicide framework. The process typically begins with the reaction of 2,6-dimethylaniline with chloroacetyl chloride under controlled conditions to form the key intermediate, followed by further refinement and purification to yield metazachlor as a technical-grade active ingredient.

Ergosterol inhibitor. Inhibition of very long chain fatty acids (VLCFA, inhibition of cell division)

Metabolic pathway

Metazachlor is transformed in soil into 2-hydroxy-N- (2,6-dimethylphenyl)-N-(1H-pyrazol-1- ylmethyl)acetamide, 2-chloro-N-(2,6- dimethylphenyl)acetamide, and 4,4' -methylenebis-(2,6- dimethylbenzenamine), and the soil concentration of the benzenamine is lower than 0.1 ppm.
