Chemical Properties
Pure product is white solid, prodrug is viscous dark liquid. b.p. 200℃/93.3Pa, vapor pressure 0.133Pa (25℃). Solubility is: acetone 50%, ethylene glycol 25%, xylene 50%, water 1%. Hydrochloride m.p. 160～162℃, stable in acidic or alkaline medium, half-life is 10d at pH 9.
Production Methods
Fenapanil is commercially produced via a synthesis that begins with 2-phenylacetonitrile, which undergoes phase-transfer catalyzed alkylation using chlorobutane to introduce the butyl group. The resulting intermediate, alpha-butyl-alpha-phenylacetonitrile, is then reacted with imidazole under basic conditions to form fenapanil.
