Definition
ChEBI: Indolin-2-one is an indolinone carrying an oxo group at position 2. It is an indolinone and a gamma-lactam.
Hazard
Causes flaccid paralysis without anesthesia (usually neuromuscular blockage), changes in motor activity, and ataxia in oral and intraperitoneal lethal-dose studies of mice; May cause irritation; Harmful by ingestion.
Solubility in organics
Oxindole is soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, DMSO, and dimethyl formamide (DMF), which should be purged with an inert gas. The solubility of oxindole in ethanol and DMF is approximately 10 mg/ml and approximately 3 mg/ml in DMSO. Oxindole is sparingly soluble in aqueous buffers.
