Monocaprylin is a glycol ether that has been used as a preservative and antimicrobial agent. It is an effective antimicrobial agent against bacteria and fungi in vitro, but not against viruses. It is used to prevent the growth of microorganisms in ointments, creams, and lotions.It has also been shown to inhibit the development of infectious diseases by altering the chemical matrix at the surface of the skin or in tissues.
