1-Propoxy-2-propanol Usage And Synthesis
Uses1-Propoxy-2-propanol is mainly used in cleaning agents. Its properties are similar to ethylene glycol butyl ether, but its odor and toxicity are lower, making it a suitable substitute. Its rapid evaporation and excellent solubility in organic stains make it suitable for use in household and industrial cleaners, degreasers, metal cleaners, and hard surface cleaners. It is also an excellent solvent for glass cleaners and general-purpose cleaners.

Synthesis

1,2-Epoxypropane is reacted with n-butanol in the presence of a catalyst. Then 1-propoxy-2-propanol is obtained after crude distillation and rectification.
