| Uses | MCPA Isooctyl Ester is a derivative of MCPA which is a herbicide. | | Production Methods | MCPA-isooctyl is produced by first manufacturing and purifying technical-grade MCPA acid through the standard industrial sequence of para-cresol chlorination followed by carboxylation to form the phenoxyacetic acid. The acid is then esterified with isooctanol (typically a branched C8 alcohol such as 2-ethylhexanol) in the presence of an acid catalyst, with the reaction run under conditions that continuously remove water to drive the equilibrium toward ester formation.
