以4-甲基-3-硝基苯酚为原料合成3-氨基-4-甲基苯酚的一般步骤如下：将4-甲基-3-硝基苯酚（77 mg，0.50 mmol）、Fe纳米颗粒（6 mg）和NaBH4（29 mg，0.75 mmol）置于1.0 mL 2重量% TPGS/H2O溶液中，于室温下反应2小时。反应完成后，得到56 mg（产率91%）3-氨基-4-甲基苯酚，为白色固体（己烷/乙酸乙酯=50:50）。产物的熔点为154℃-156℃。经GC-MS分析，m/z为123 [M]，光谱数据与文献报道一致。
