The general procedure for the synthesis of 2-cyclohexylidenehexylidenemalononitrile from cyclohexanone and malononitrile is as follows: 1 mmol of cyclohexanone (carbonyl compound) and 1 mmol of malononitrile (activated methanol) were dissolved in 5 ml of solvent (dimethylformamide (DMF) or acetonitrile (MeCN)) under stirring conditions. 0.0035 g of 'HDT-F' catalyst (prepared as described in Example 1) was added. The reaction process was monitored by thin layer chromatography (TLC). Upon completion of the reaction, the catalyst was removed by filtration, the filtrate was washed with water, and the product was dried with sodium sulfate and concentrated under reduced pressure. The yield was based on the amount of cyclohexanone consumed during the reaction and was determined by analyzing the final product by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy.
