AMMONIUM IODATE Usage And Synthesis
DescriptionAmmonium iodate, is an oxidizing agent and a dangerous fire and explosion risk in contact with organic materials. It is a white, odorless powder.

UsesAmmonium iodate is used as an oxidation reagent. Ammonium Iodate-18O3 is the labeled analog of ammonium iodate.

Synthesis
1, by the concentrated ammonia after water-cooled, add a small amount of iodine while stirring and mixing, the mixed solution heating reaction, evaporate excess ammonia, evaporation and concentration, cooling crystallization; centrifugal separation, drying system. It can also be produced by complex decomposition reaction with barium iodate and ammonium sulfate aqueous solution.
2, in 100g of crushed iodine add 280mL 10% ammonia (twice the theoretical need) and 600mL 3% hydrogen peroxide (33% overdose), stirring, until the reaction mixture is a yellow solution (sometimes need to add a little more hydrogen peroxide). This solution is evaporated on a water bath until crystals are precipitated.
3. Mix a solution of hydriodic acid with ammonia or an aqueous solution of ammonium carbonate stoichiometrically and evaporate this mixture until crystals precipitate.
Reaction equation: 2NH3+HI——NH4I or 2HI+(NH4)2CO3——2NH4I+H2O+CO2 .
Purification MethodsAmmonium iodate crystallises from water (8mL/g) on cooling from 100o to 0o.
