QUINONAMID Usage And Synthesis
UsesQuinonamid is an antiparasitic agent, an algicide.
DefinitionChEBI: Quinonamid is a member of 1,4-naphthoquinones.
Production MethodsQuinonamid was produced through a manufacturing sequence typical of early quinoline derived herbicides. Industrial routes generally began with construction of the substituted quinoline nucleus, often via condensation of anilines with beta dicarbonyl compounds, followed by oxidation or halogenation steps to introduce the functional groups needed for herbicidal activity. This intermediate was then converted into the amide form through reaction with the appropriate acid chloride or anhydride under controlled, anhydrous conditions, with acid scavengers used to maintain selectivity. Final purification relied on solvent washing and crystallisation to yield technical grade quinonamid for formulation.
Mechanism of actionInhibits the photosynthetic oxygen production of algal suspensions as well as acting as a photosynthetic electron transport blocker
Pesticide TypeAlgicide; Herbicide
