Almagate Usage And Synthesis
Preparation

Aluminum sulfate, magnesium sulfate, and sodium carbonate are prepared under specific conditions through a coprecipitation displacement reaction in a certain concentration and molar ratio. Sodium carbonate hydrolyzes to release hydroxide ions, which then undergo a coprecipitation displacement reaction with magnesium and aluminum salts to form Almagate. Under electric stirring in a 90°C water bath, a mixture of appropriate proportions of aluminum sulfate and magnesium sulfate, along with a certain amount of anhydrous sodium carbonate solution, is slowly added dropwise to a suitable amount of water over approximately 1 hour, followed by a further 20 minutes of reaction. After aging, the product is filtered, thoroughly washed with distilled water, and dried at 100°C to obtain Almagate.

Chemical PropertiesAlmagate is white or almost white, fine, crystalline powder.
OriginatorAlmagate ,AGARWAL PHARCHEM (I) PVT. LTD.
UsesAlmagate is used as an Antacid Raw material in a specific antacid formulations.
Manufacturing Process2 Methods of producing of basic aluminium magnesium carbonate:
1. A suspension of aluminum hydroxide (9.57 g, corresponding to 5.09 g of Al2O3 0.05 mol), magnesium hydroxide of 92.09% purity (18.87 g; 0.3 mol), concentrated ammonium hydroxide (4.89 ml; 0.33 mol) and water (500 ml) was boiled under reflux for 6 h while a stream of carbon dioxide was passed through the mixture. Then the reaction mixture was cooled, and the insoluble compound was filtered off, washed several times with water and dried in vacuum at a temperature of 60°C. Basic aluminum magnesium carbonate (31.1 g) was obtained.
2. A suspension of aluminium hydroxide (9.57 g, corresponding to 5.09 g of Al2O3 0.05 mol) magnesium hydroxide of 92.09% purity (18.87 g; 0.3 mol), triethylamine (33.4 g; 0.33 mol) and water (500 ml) was boiled under reflux for 8 h while a stream of carbon dioxide was passed through the mixture. After cooling, the insoluble compound was filtered off, washed several times with water and dried at 60°C under reduced pressure. Basic aluminum magnesium carbonate (30.8 g) was obtained.
