| Uses | tert-Butyldimethylsilanol can be used as a silylating agent for the protection of hydroxyl groups via silylation. It is used:
- For the preparation of α-chiral ether derivatives by catalytic asymmetric allylic substitution.
- As an initiator for the polymerization of 1,2 benzenedicarboxaldehyde.
- In the synthesis of enol silyl ethers.
| | Synthesis | Tert-butyldimethylsilanol is prepared as follows:
1.86 mg (0.01 mmol) of 4,4'-diamino-2,2'-bipyridine, 1.77 mg (0.005 mmol) of manganese (II) perchlorate hexahydrate, 1.5 mL of acetone were added to a reaction tube and the reaction was stirred for 2 hr at 80 C, cooled down to ambient temperature, 68 mg (0.5 mmol) of tert-butyldimethyl Silane, then 250μL of hydrogen peroxide with a mass concentration of 30% was diluted with 0.5 mL of acetone and added to the reaction tube through a flow syringe pump for 15 minutes in succession, and after addition, the remaining hydrogen peroxide was quenched by adding saturated sodium sulfite to the reaction solution, and the solution was extracted with ethyl acetate to obtain tert-butyldimethylsilanol with a yield of 94%.
