General procedure for the synthesis of 4-(dimethylamino)benzamide from p-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde: In a 10 mL pressurized vial, Sc(OTf)3 (10 mol%, 49 mg), p-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde (1 mmol), NH2OH-HCl (1 mmol, 69 mg), and Na2CO3 (1 mmol) were added, followed by H2O (1 mL). The vials were sealed using snap-on lids and placed in a single-mode CEM Discover Bench Mate microwave reactor and irradiated at 300 W power and 135 °C for 15-35 min. The progress of the reaction was monitored by TLC during the reaction. Upon completion of the reaction, the mixture was cooled to room temperature and extracted with EtOAc (3 × 10 mL). The organic phases were combined, dried with Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography using EtOAc/hexane (3:7) as eluent and the final product was characterized by physical properties and spectral data.
