| Uses | 9-[1,1'-biphenyl-4-yl]-3-bromo-9H-carbazole is widely used as an intermediate in pharmaceuticals, materials, chemical reagents, and fine chemicals. | | Chemical Properties | White crystalline powder | | Synthesis | General procedure for the synthesis of 9-[1,1'-biphenyl-4-yl]-3-bromo-9H-carbazole from 9-(4-biphenylyl)carbazole: 3.1 g (10 mmol) of 9-(4-biphenylyl)carbazole was dissolved in 100 mL of chloroform, followed by the slow addition of 1.8 g (10 mmol) of N-bromosuccinimide. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 24 hours. Upon completion of the reaction, the organic phase was washed with water. The organic phase was dried by adding anhydrous magnesium sulfate, followed by filtration to remove the desiccant.
