| Synthesis | Using 5,6-dimethoxyindanone as starting material, a global demethylation reaction was carried out in dichloromethane solvent with the addition of an excess of boron tribromide (BBr3) to afford the crude product 5,6-dihydroxyindan-1-one (crude product 1) in 100% reaction yield (see Scheme 1).
