Dibenzenechromium Usage And Synthesis
Chemical Propertiesdark green to black crystals or crystalline powder
UsesCatalyst for:
  • Olefin hydrogenation
  • Electron transfer chain catalysis mechanism

  • Pre-catalyst for the hydrosilation of ketones and aldehydes, for the dehydrocoupling of triphenylsilane with primary alcohols
reaction suitabilitycore: chromium
reagent type: catalyst
Safety ProfilePoison by intravenous route. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of Cr.
SynthesisDiphenylchromium was prepared as follows: in the presence of benzene, chromium trichloride was reduced with aluminum metal using aluminum trichloride as a catalyst to produce diphenylchromium tetrachloroaluminate [Cr(6-C6H6)2]-[AlCl4], which was then reduced to neutral diphenylchromium with aqueous Lienodisulfite.
Purification MethodsDibenzenechromium is sublimed at 160 °C in vacuo.
PrecautionsDibenzenechromium is air sensitive.
