Description2,4-Dibromo-1-nitrobenzene is a pharmaceutical intermediate that can be obtained by nitration of m-dibromobenzene. This compound can be used to prepare the benzimidazole anthelmintic fenbendazole through a four-step reaction.

Production MethodsDissolve 24.5g of m-dibromobenzene in 49.0g of concentrated sulfuric acid (98%) at room temperature, cool to 0-5°C, add 9.80g of nitric acid (68%) dropwise, control the temperature at 0-5°C during the addition process, and stir at 5-10°C for 2 hours after the addition is complete. After the reaction is completed, add the reaction solution dropwise to 49.0g of cold water, and the temperature does not exceed 60°C during the quenching process. After the quenching is completed, stir at room temperature for 0.5 hours, filter, and wash the filter cake with 15.0g of water to obtain 31.95g (water content 16.0%) of 2,4-Dibromo-1-nitrobenzene tide product with a purity of 99.75%.
