| | 3,3'-Bicarbazole Usage And Synthesis |
| Uses | 3,3'-bicarbazole can be used to synthesize liquid crystal materials. | | Synthesis | The general procedure for the synthesis of 3,3'-bicarbazole from carbazole was as follows: carbazole (10 g, 59.8 mmol), ferric(III) chloride (38.8 g, 239.3 mmol), and chloroform (200 mL) were added sequentially to a 400 mL four-necked flask, and the reaction was stirred at room temperature for 30 min. Upon completion of the reaction, the organic solvent was removed by distillation under reduced pressure. The residue was washed with methanol and the solid product was collected by filtration. The methanol washing step was repeated twice to finally obtain the intermediate 3,3'-bicarbazole (16.7 g, 84% yield). | | References | [1] Patent: TWI540129, 2016, B.
