| Synthesis | 4-Bromophenol (10 g, 57.8 mmol), Cs2CO3 (24.48 g, 75.14 mmol) and chloroacetonitrile (5.66 g, 75.14 mmol) were dissolved in DMF. The mixture was then heated to 70°C for 5 hours, and transferred into a mixture of ice/H2O. The precipitate was filtered, and the resulting solid was partitioned between water and DCM. The aqueous phase was back extracted and the combined organic phases were washed with brine, dried over Na2SO4 and the solvent removed under reduced atmosphere, resulting a beige solid 2-(4-BROMOPHENOXY)ACETONITRILE. Yield: 12.18 g, 57.4 mmol (99% based on 4-bromophenol). |
