FLAMPROP Usage And Synthesis
DescriptionFlamprop is an obsolete herbicide usually formulated as the methyl variant. It has a moderate aqueous solubility and is not volatile. It can be persistent in soil systems. Very little data is available regarding its toxicity to biodiversity but it does appear to be moderately toxic to aquatic species. It has a low oral toxicity to mammals including humans.
UsesFlamprop is an antiparasitic agent. A herbicide.
DefinitionChEBI: Flamprop is a member of benzamides.
Production MethodsFlamprop is commercially produced through a multi-step synthesis involving the formation of its alanine-based structure. The process begins with the preparation of 3-chloro-4-fluoroaniline, which is acylated with benzoyl chloride to form N-benzoyl-3-chloro-4-fluoroaniline. This intermediate is then coupled with DL-alanine or its derivatives under controlled conditions to yield flamprop. The reaction is typically carried out in organic solvents such as ethyl acetate or toluene, with temperature and pH carefully regulated to optimise yield and purity.
Mechanism of actionSelective. The mode of action of flamprop is primarily the inhibition of cell elongation at the meristematic regions of the plant.
