Zoxamide Usage And Synthesis
DescriptionZoxamide is a common broad-spectrum fungicide. It has a low aqueous solubility, is volatile and has a low potential for leaching to groundwater. It is not usually persistent in soil or water systems. Zoxamide has a low mammalian toxicity but is a probable skin sensitiser and a recognised eye irritant. It is moderately toxic to most fauna and flora.
UsesAgricultural fungicide.
UsesZoxamide is a fungacide for control of mildew and late bight. Zoxamide was developped for foliar use on potatoes, vines, and vegetables. Zoxamide is able to specifically target Oomycete fungi; Zoxamide exhibits strong preventive activity combined with excellent rainfast and residual properties.
DefinitionChEBI: 3,5-dichloro-N-(1-chloro-3-methyl-2-oxopentan-3-yl)-4-methylbenzamide is a member of the class of benzamides obtained by formal condensation of the carboxy group of 3,5-dichloro-4-methylbenzamide with the amino group of 3-amino-1-chloro-3-methylpentan-2-one. It is a member of benzamides, an alpha-chloroketone and a dichlorobenzene.
Production MethodsZoxamide is produced through a multi-step chemical synthesis involving chlorinated aromatic compounds and amide formation, resulting in a racemic mixture of the active ingredient.
HazardLow toxicity by ingestion, inhalation, and skin contact.
Mechanism of actionContact with additional vapour activity. Rainfast preventative action with residual properties. Inhibition of mitosis and cell division (Beta-tubulin assembly in mitosis).
