| | 4-bromonaphthalen-2-ol Usage And Synthesis |
| Uses | 4-Bromo-2-naphthalenol is used as a reactant in the preparation of pyrazoles as inhibitors of macrophage migration inhibitory factor. | | Synthesis | 4-Bromonaphthalen-2-ol is synthesized from naphthalen-1-amine in three steps. Step A: Naphthalen-1-amine reacts with Br2 in AcOH to give 2,4-dibromonaphthalen-1-amine. Step B: This product is diazotized with NaNO2 in AcOH/propionic acid at low temperature to yield 4-bromo-1-diazo-naphthalen-2-ol. Step C: This diazo compound is reduced with NaBH4 in EtOH. Work-up followed by purification via column chromatography and reversed-phase HPLC gives 4-bromonaphthalen-2-ol. |
