| Synthesis | GENERAL METHOD: Malonic acid (1.04 g, 10 mmol) and ammonium formate (1.26 g, 20 mmol) were dissolved in ethanol (50 mL), followed by the addition of 2-fluorobenzaldehyde (10 mmol). The reaction mixture was heated to reflux for 7 hours. After completion of the reaction, it was cooled to room temperature and the crude product was collected by filtration.
