| | Preparation |
1,3-Dimethyl-1,3-dihydro-2-phenyl-2H-benzimidazole is prepared by the following steps: N1,N2-dimethyl-o-phenylenediamine is condensed with benzaldehyde in methanol-acetic acid. The product is purified by recrystallization from petroleum ether. The spent reagent may be recovered and reactivated by Sodium Borohydride in methanol.
