| | Synthesis | General procedure for the synthesis of 4-(4-piperidinyl)morpholine from N-benzyl-4-(4-morpholinyl)piperidine: 41.59 g (0.16 mol) of N-benzyl-4-(4-morpholinyl)piperidine was dissolved in 400 mL of methanol, and 5.2 g of 10% palladium/carbon catalyst was added. The hydrogenation reaction was carried out at room temperature for 18 hours at 50 psi hydrogen pressure. Upon completion of the reaction, the catalyst was removed by filtration and the filtrate was concentrated. A colorless oily substance was obtained, which was left to crystallize.
