- as polyelectrolyte solution in the synthesis of biodegradable capsules
- as layer constituent, in the preparation of layer by layer (LbL) assembly of multilayer biodegradable shells
- in assay for the determination of binding activity of C-reactive protein for polycationic ligands

| | General Description | Poly-L-arginine hydrochloride (PLA) is a homopolyamino acid. PLA enhances membrane permeability compared to poly-L-lysine. It has applications as drug carrier, neuroprotective agent and in anticancer vaccines preparations. Peptide vaccines in conjugation with PLA promotes antigen-presenting cells (APCs) to generate T cell and elicit immunostimulant functionality. | | Biochem/physiol Actions | Poly-L-arginine (PLA) possesses anti-bacterial activity. It has a greater capacity to enhance membrane permeability. PLA at lower concentration enhances cell proliferation and at higher concentration acts as antiproliferative agent. |
