| Description | 2-Nitro-5-(phenylacetylamino)-benzoic acid, also known as 6-Nitro-3-phenylacetamidobenzoic acid, is a chromogenic analogue of penicillin. | | Uses | 2-Nitro-5-(phenylacetylamino)-benzoic acid is used as a substrate for penicillin amidase, which produces phenylacetic acid and 5-amino-2-nitrobenzoic acid by PGA cleavage. Since 5-amino-2-nitro-benzoic acid is chromogenic, the substrate of 2-Nitro-5-(phenylacetylamino)-benzoic acid provides a convenient way to measure PGA activity.
