| Description | Demeton-O-methyl is an organophosphate insecticide. Other than having a moderate aqueous solubility, very little data is available regarding its environmental fate. It is moderately toxic to honeybees and earthworms. Other ecotoxicity data is missing. Demeton-O-methyl is an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor and a neurotoxin. It is also an irritant. | | Uses | Demeton Methyl is an organophosphorus pesticides. | | Production Methods | Demeton-O-methyl is commercially produced through esterification of thiophosphoric acid derivatives with methanol. In industrial settings, demeton-O-methyl is synthesised by reacting O,O-dimethyl phosphorochloridothioate with 2-(methylthio)ethanol under controlled conditions. | | Mechanism of action | Systemic with contact and stomach action.
