| Synthesis | General procedure for the synthesis of N-phenyl-N-methylglycine hydrochloride from methyl 2-(methyl(phenyl)amino)acetate:
c) Preparation of N-phenyl-N-methylglycine hydrochloride
Methyl 2-(methyl(phenyl)amino)acetate (0.80 g, 4.46 mmol) obtained from step b was dissolved in 10% aqueous hydrochloric acid (20 mL) and the reaction was stirred under reflux conditions for 4 hours. After completion of the reaction, water was removed by distillation under reduced pressure and the resulting residue was dried under vacuum to give the crude product (0.81 g) as a solid. The crude product was washed with acetone and again dried under vacuum to give purified N-phenyl-N-methylglycine hydrochloride (0.65 g, 72% yield).
