PreparationCurrently, the main methods for extracting ginger oil from ginger include pressing, molecular distillation, and supercritical fluid extraction. (1) Pressing: Pressing involves directly processing washed ginger using pressing machinery to obtain ginger oil. The amount of ginger oil obtained depends not only on the quality of the ginger itself but also on the pretreatment of the ginger and the operation of the pressing equipment. Furthermore, the pressed product can be processed through sedimentation to obtain two different products: supernatant and precipitate. Pressing yields a mixture of ginger oils, including both non-volatile and volatile ginger oils. (2) Molecular Distillation: Molecular distillation technology can effectively separate terpenes and gingerols in ginger oil, and can increase the relative content of gingerols to over 85%. Therefore, molecular distillation is more suitable for the refining process of ginger essential oil. (3) Supercritical CO2 extraction Supercritical CO2 extraction can simultaneously obtain volatile and non-volatile ginger oil. Due to the inertness of CO2 and the fact that the extraction and separation are carried out at room temperature, the ginger essential oil extracted by supercritical extraction has richer chemical components, more diffused aroma, and purer fragrance. Therefore, this method can reduce the decomposition of unstable components in ginger during the separation process. Its practical application effect is better than that of ginger essential oil extracted by traditional steam distillation. Moreover, the residue after extraction is more conducive to comprehensive utilization.
Description Ginger (Zingiber officinale) is a common spice and herb used globally to treat gastrointestinal disorders. The primary bioactive part of ginger is its rhizome, which can be used as an adjunctive treatment or alternative medicine for various ailments. It has been shown to exhibit anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antitumor, and antiulcer effects. The potential of ginger water extract in dietary intervention for treating gastric cancer is evident. In the ginger extract treatment group, pathological partial remission of the gastric epithelium and glands was observed, except for occasional focal gland hyperplasia. Additionally, it can reduce oxidative stress markers (TRx, GRx) and pro-inflammatory markers NF-κB, TNF-α, IL-6, and PGE levels. This has been identified as an effective measure in reducing oxidative stress and inflammation associated with gastric cancer.
