Physical and chemical properties
White needle-like crystals, melting point 118 ℃ (145 ~ 146 ℃ decomposition). It is soluble in ethanol and acetone, but almost insoluble in ether, benzene, chloroform and water. Tryptamine is a biologically derived imine derived from the decarboxylation of tryptophan. It stimulates smooth muscle contraction. Exist in animals and plants. It is formed by amine oxidase oxidation. It is the precursor formed by Harman (→ Harman alkaloid). 5-hydroxyl derivatives (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) exist in the plasma of mammals and the skin of amphibians, and have a vasoconstrictor effect.
