Amitraz (chemical name: N,N'-bis(2,4-dimethylphenyl)formamidine; CAS No. 33089-61-1) is a synthetic formamidine pesticide widely used as a broad-spectrum acaricide and insecticide. It appears as a white to pale yellow crystalline solid with a melting point of 88–89 °C, low water solubility (~1 mg/L), and good solubility in organic solvents like acetone and xylene.

Key Uses of Amitraz:

Acaricidal (Mite Control):

Highly effective against mites (e.g., spider mites, rust mites, tetranychid mites) on crops such as cotton, citrus, apples, pears, strawberries, and vegetables.

Controls all life stages: eggs, larvae, nymphs, and adults.

Insecticidal Activity:

Used against pear psylla, whiteflies, aphids, scale insects, and larvae of lepidopteran pests (e.g., cotton bollworm).

Shows repellent, anti-feeding (antifeedant), and growth-inhibiting effects.
