Potassium hexafluorophosphate

Potassium hexafluorophosphate (chemical formula KPF₆, CAS No. 17084-13-8) is an inorganic alkali metal salt, belonging to the hexafluorophosphate class of chemicals, and is also a fluorine-containing inorganic compound.

Basic Properties

Appearance: White crystals or powder, with some hygroscopicity;

Solubility: Easily soluble in water, also soluble in some organic solvents;

Hazards: Class 8 corrosive hazardous chemicals, posing a serious risk of burns to skin and eyes; harmful if ingested, inhaled, or through skin contact.

Main Uses

Lithium-ion Battery Industry: Commonly used as an additive in lithium-ion battery electrolytes to improve battery performance and stability;

Organic Synthesis: Used as a fluorinating agent and fluorine substitute in the preparation of fluorine-containing organic compounds;

Materials Preparation: Used in the synthesis of other hexafluorophosphates (such as lithium hexafluorophosphate), and can also be applied in solar cells, ceramic materials, etc.
